Is television a wonderful invention?

ХОД УРОКА:

  1. Организационный момент:

     Good morning, boys and girls. Today we’ll continue speaking about one of the greatest achievements of technological progress, about television. At the end of the lesson we’ll come up to the conclusion if television is a wonderful invention.

  2. Фонетическая зарядка.

     But before we start, as soon as we’re to read and to speak much at the lesson, let’s do at first phonetic and lexical training exercises to brush up your speech habits. Repeat the words thoroughly:

              Current affairs programmes

              Entertainment

              Feature film

              Rough language

              Sci-fi film

              Violence

Thank you for your work.  Well, at the previous lessons we mentioned different TV genres, different types of TV, we discussed your favourite films. And we mentioned that TV has both advantages and disadvantages. By the way, can you remember what disadvantages of TV you mentioned?

  • Контроль домашнего задания.

    And now I’d like to know what advantages of a TV- free life are mentioned in the article you had to read at home. (New Millennium English 11 класс “TV-Turnoff Week Turns me on”) (Possible answers: read more, travel more, more chances to communicate with people, etc.)

    And now let’s discuss the disadvantages of TV. Why does the author of the article invite people to join his life style? (Possible answers: passive brains, commercials, violence, etc.)

  • Thanks a lot! It’s very interesting for me to know your opinion. Can you imagine our world without television? (Монологические высказывания 2-3 учеников)

  • I see your points. It’s seems to me you can’t deny the fact that TV is an integral part of our lives, and quite a useful one, but sometimes you can get something negative from it. The USA has a special film rating preventing the youngsters from seeing unsuitable things on TV. Natasha Zakharova has prepared a presentation about it.     You see, different measures are taken to prevent children from seeing violence and other unsuitable things on the screens.       Now open your books on page 203 (Кузовлев В.П. 10-11 класс) and look through the texts. You have to complete the table, dividing the teenagers’ opinions into 2 groups, pros and cons. I give you 5 minutes for this task.

      Now I’d like to listen to your own opinions about action films. In your answers you can use the phrases from the box in your textbooks. (Высказывания 3 учащихся)

That was wonderful! I liked your answers. But the opinions are quite different as usual. And to sum our lesson up I’d like you to share your points of view on TV with your partners. You have cards with words and expressions that may be helpful.

      I think we have a couple of minutes left. It was our last lesson on the topic “TV in our life”. There are many arguments for and against TV. But I think we must understand that TV itself is neither good nor bad. TV is as good or bad as we make it.
